The 2024 Tour de France dates are confirmed for Saturday 29th June – Sunday 21st July 2024. The Tour de France 2024 will be held one week earlier than usual due to the Olympic Games in Paris that kickstart late July.
The three-week Grand Tour is full of historic firsts, departing from Italy for the first time in its 111 years. The 2024 Tour de France will set off to a spectacular start from the beautiful Tuscan capital of Florence, taking in the best of the Apennine Mountains before a fast finish onto the Adriatic Coast, ensuring quite the start to the race! The next two stages will continue through Italy, including a punchy route into Bologna on Stage 2 and a day for the fast men on Stage 3 that will conclude in Turin's Piedmonte.
The next key 2024 Tour de France dates include day four, when the tour makes its way into France, diving right into the thick of the mountains via the Alps and climbing as high as the 2,642m up the iconic Col du Galbier; the first time the Tour de France has ever tackled such a high mountain pass so soon into the race. This will present an early race opportunity for the General Classification contenders to sneak some time from their rivals and has the potential to blow the race apart with a long way still to go to Nice.
Several sprint stages en route to Dijon come after, before a Stage 7 race against the clock through the picturesque vineyards of Burgundy, offering up a golden opportunity for the time trial specialist and GC riders to gain some time and take first time trial stage of the 2024 Tour de France.
A lumpy Stage 8 into Colombey-les-Deux-Eglises comes next, before facing a daunting Stage 9 that features a succession of 14 sectors of white roads, 32km of which are gravel, providing the ultimate technical test to round out the first week in Troyes. A day that is bound to spice things up for the peloton and one race leaders will need to be on high alert to avoid any mishaps along the route.
Onto the Massif Central the 2024 Tour de France goes; a challenge alone being that it is one of the hottest parts of the country throughout the summer months. In line with the 2024 Tour de France dates, Stage 10 will finish in former World Champion, Julian Alaphilippe’s hometown of Saint-Amand-Montrond. The race will then continue heading South, tackling a mountainous Stage 11 into Le Lioran that includes four mountain passes and 4350m of vertical gain. A day for the breakaway specialists follows before storming into Pau all in favor of the fast men
A grueling day through the thick of the relentless Pyrenees then awaits where mountains are well and truly on the menu, featuring the Col du Tourmalet and a summit finish up Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla d’Adet, clocking 3,900m of elevation across the day. Another mountain top finish awaits to celebrate Bastille Day on Stage 15, where the peloton will encounter a brutal 6 climbs and 4,850m before finishing the second week of the 2024 Tour de France in superb fashion up Plateau de Beille.
After the much deserved second rest day, the sprinters will shine, relishing the short but sweet break from the mountains. Not for long as Stage 17 ventures into the Hautes Alpes where the testing Col du Noyer lies ahead of the finish up to Superdevoluy. According to the 2024 Tour de France dates, Stage 18 into Barcelonette presents a final opportunity for the breakaway and sprint teams, harshly followed by an extremely difficult Stage 19, where the Southern Alps’ Isola 2,000 ski station will play host to a thrilling summit finish, taking the stage to a total of 4,600m of climbing. Certainly, no rest for the wicked at the 2024 Tour de France!
The peloton will go on to make its way to the stunning French Riviera to tackle a short but far from sweet penultimate stage from Nice, that includes a succession of four Hors Categorie climbs, ending with a summit finish atop the Col de la Couillole.
Then another historic first awaits with a hilly Time Trial laid out for the final Stage 21 from Monaco into Nice. The 2024 Tour de France will mark the first occasion the race has ever finished outside of Paris and the first time since 1989 that it has concluded with a Time Trial when Greg LeMond dramatically claimed the Yellow Jersey from Laurent Fignon. It promises to be nothing of shy of spectacular and we cannot wait to be part of every moment.
