2025 Santos Tour Down Under - 25th Anniversary
The Santos Tour Down Under is a premier cycling event held annually in Adelaide drawing thousands of visitors to South Australia each year. As the first event on the UCI World Tour calendar, it attracts top cyclists from around the world, making it a significant race in the international cycling circuit. With its blend of world-class competition and vibrant local atmosphere, the race has firmly established itself as a key fixture on the global cycling calendar. In January 2025 this prestigious event celebrates its silver jubilee and promises to be a spectacular edition. The world’s elite cyclists will once again take on South Australia’s most iconic roads under the heat of the Aussie sun.
Launched in 1999, the Santos Tour Down Under has grown in prestige, becoming not just a showcase of elite cycling but also a celebration of South Australian culture and scenery. The race spans several stages over a week, taking riders through diverse terrains, from the bustling city streets of Adelaide to the rolling hills of the Barossa Valley and the rugged landscapes of the Adelaide Hills. Each stage of the race presents unique challenges, including sprint finishes, mountainous climbs, and time trials, providing excitement and drama for both participants and spectators. The event concludes with a final stage around Adelaide's city centre, which is often decisive in determining the overall winner.
Key Highlights of the 2025 Men’s Stages
The 2025 Men’s road race kicks off with the Classic criterium, returning to its original East End circuit. This opening event is always a spectacle, and the sprint finish in this milestone year is sure to be something special.
Stage 1 introduces a new challenge with the first-ever finish in Gumeracha, a historic town nestled in the Adelaide Hills. This stage will push riders with over 2500 vertical meters of climbing as they race through vineyards, farmland, and breathtaking landscapes toward a high-speed finish.
Willunga Hill is back, but with a unique spin! For the first time in the history of the Santos Tour Down Under, the pros will descend Willunga Hill before heading to the coast, then returning for two climbs up the challenging ascent to a high-stakes hilltop finish.
The final stage, Stage 6, unfolds in the heart of Adelaide. This flat circuit offers a breather for climbers, but sprinters will be eager to seize victory on the race's closing day. It's the perfect way to celebrate 25 years of Australia’s premier cycling event.
